Can a single image change how someone sees the value of an unborn child? On this edition of Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk, Dr. Dobson continues his conversation with acclaimed Christian artist Ron DiCianni, whose own life nearly ended in abortion before his mother walked away from the procedure. Ron explains how growing up with that story gave him a powerful sense that his life had purpose. As his artistic gifts developed, his mother became one of his greatest encouragers, and Ron eventually built a career using visual art to communicate biblical truth. The conversation explores several of his best-known Christian works, including Simeon’s Moment, inspired by Luke 2, and Spiritual Warfare, the widely recognized painting of a father praying beside his sleeping child while a spiritual battle unfolds around him. But much of the program centers on Ron’s pro-life painting Before I Formed You in the Womb, inspired by Jeremiah 1:5. The artwork depicts the hand of Christ reaching toward an unborn child, visually expressing Ron’s conviction that every life is known by God and carries purpose before birth. Ron describes the mission of the Before I Formed You Foundation, which seeks to place the image in pregnancy resource centers, medical offices and other locations where women facing difficult pregnancy decisions may see it. Dr. Dobson and Ron also speak directly to women who have already experienced abortion. While strongly defending unborn life, they emphasize that God’s forgiveness remains available and that Christians must respond with compassion rather than condemnation. Ron’s message is ultimately one of both conviction and hope: every child has value, every life has purpose, and the gifts God gives His people can be used to defend those who cannot defend themselves.
