09-29-2026 PART 1: When God’s Word Challenges the Way We Live

Section 1

Grace is not merely how the Christian life begins; grace remains the foundation of everything that follows. Dr. Dave points to Galatians and warns against beginning by faith only to gradually start believing we must take control and help God accomplish His work. Even Abraham and Sarah fell into that trap. 09292026A Our ultimate hope therefore cannot rest in our performance, circumstances, or ability to manage life successfully. It rests in Jesus Christ, His resurrection, His promised return, and eternity with God. Scripture calls that hope an anchor for the soul. When disappointment comes, believers must examine where their hope has actually been placed. God remains the God of hope, and anyone without hope can call upon the name of the Lord, surrender to Jesus, and discover the salvation only He can provide.

Section 2

Some Scriptures challenge us precisely because they confront the distance between what we believe and how we sometimes live. First Thessalonians 5:18 commands believers to give thanks in everything—not because every circumstance is pleasant, but because God can work through every circumstance for good. 09292026A Dr. Dave applies this personally to Easton’s struggles and additional difficulties hitting the family at the same time. Trust does not require knowing how God will weave painful circumstances together, nor does it demand understanding His timing. It means believing His Word even when our feelings argue differently. That same struggle appears in “walk by faith, not by sight.” Like Peter watching the wind and waves, believers can shift their attention toward what they hear and see. Yet Jesus remains near, even when faith wavers.

Section 3

Spiritual maturity includes being honest about the Scriptures that expose our weaknesses instead of avoiding them. Dr. Dave acknowledges verses that repeatedly confront him and encourages believers to bring those struggles directly to God. There is an enormous difference between believing in God and actually believing what God says. 09292026A When Scripture challenges us, the proper response is humility: asking the Lord for understanding, help, and strength to obey. Christianity is not about producing a flawless performance; it is about faithfully responding to God, walking in the Spirit, loving one another, and continuing forward even after mistakes. Adam and Eve heard God and hid, but believers are called to move in the opposite direction—toward Him. We stop attempting to manage faith for God and surrender ourselves to walking with Him. When God’s Word confronts you, don’t run from the verse—run to the God who gave it and trust Him enough to live it.
