What might be lost when an unborn child never gets the chance to live? On this edition of Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk, Dr. Dobson welcomes acclaimed Christian artist Ron DiCianni for a deeply personal conversation about faith, art and the sanctity of human life. DiCianni is widely known for Spiritual Warfare, his striking visual interpretation of Ephesians 6 that depicts a father praying beside his young son while an unseen spiritual battle unfolds around them. DiCianni explains how God redirected a successful commercial-art career toward artwork intended to point people to Jesus Christ — and how a painting many initially believed Christians would never buy became one of his most enduring works. The conversation then turns to the deeply personal reason behind DiCianni’s passion for protecting unborn life. Growing up in a crowded Chicago household, DiCianni learned that his mother once entered a doctor’s office intending to have an abortion. According to the story she later repeated to him for decades, the procedure was about to begin when she heard God tell her, “Don’t do this. I have a plan for this baby.” She pushed the needle away, walked out and never returned. That decision gave DiCianni the opportunity to live, raise a family and ultimately use his artistic gifts to reach people around the world. He tells Dr. Dobson that the experience left him with profound gratitude for his mother’s obedience and a conviction that every child in the womb has value and purpose known by God. That conviction inspired another of DiCianni’s works, Before I Formed You in the Womb, drawing from the words of Jeremiah 1:5 and the biblical teaching that God knows human life even before birth. Dr. Dobson and DiCianni also speak directly to women facing unexpected pregnancies, urging listeners to consider the unknown potential, purpose and future contained within every unborn child.
