National Grandparents Day of Prayer, Part 2

What spiritual legacy will your grandchildren remember receiving from you? On this edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson continues his conversation with Christian Grandparenting Network founder Kevin Harper about the unique, God-given influence grandparents can have in the lives of their children and grandchildren. National Grandparents’ Day of Prayer Dr. Dobson and Kevin discuss the National Grandparents’ Day of Prayer, observed in connection with National Grandparents Day. The effort encourages grandparents across the country to gather together and intentionally pray for their grandchildren, children, families, schools and churches. Kevin explains that the goal goes far beyond one annual observance. Grandparents can form regular prayer groups and make intercession for their families an ongoing part of their lives. Rather than withdrawing from him, Kevin describes sitting down with his grandson and assuring him that his love would remain constant. At the same time, he made clear that he believes God desires something greater for the young man’s life and that he will remain available whenever his grandson is ready to ask questions or seek truth. The conversation offers encouragement for grandparents facing similar situations: remain present, keep praying and be prepared for the moments when a grandchild may suddenly become willing to listen. Speaking Blessing Into the Next Generation Dr. Dobson and Kevin also discuss the biblical practice of blessing younger generations — intentionally speaking words of faith, encouragement, purpose and hope into the lives of children and grandchildren.
